Fantasy Friday: August 13th

Who to Start:
Jason Kubel - OF – Minnesota Twins:
Only 50% of Yahoo fantasy owners have Kubel starting, which is odd since he is on a tear the last seven days. He is batting .318 (7-for-22) and in the seven hits he has 4 HRs, 8 RBIs, 8 Runs with four walks. For the year he might only be batting .266 but he has 17 HRs and 73 RBIs. He is a must start until he cools off.

Who to Bench:
Denard Span - OF – Minnesota Twins:
Span has been on a recent skid at the bat and Manger Ron Gardenhire notice by giving him the day off Thursday. August hasn’t been good for Span; he has dropped his batting average to .269 which is .007 points lower. Since August 7th he has gone 4-for-20 (.200) with no RBIs. Give him time to regroup before starting him.

Who to Add:
J.P. Arencibia - C – Toronto Blue Jays:
There has been no better way to start off your major league career than the way Arencibia did vs. Tampa Bay on 8/7. He went 4-for-5 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs. Since then he has gone 0-for-7 but this kid is explosive. In the minors he had 31 homeruns and 80+ RBIs. Since John Bucks is on the DL Arencibia will split some time with vet Jose Molina. In your daily leagues Arencibia is a great pick up.

Who to Drop:
Javier Vazquez – SP – New York Yankees:
Despite his 9 wins, Vazquez is too much of a risk to even think about using in your starting lineup. He will kill your ERA and WHIP. He has lasted 7 innings since facing Cleveland on 7/26. Vazquez last three outings have been vs. Texas, Boston and Tampa Bay (ouch!). In those 3 starts he gave 22 hits, 13 runs while only striking out nine and walking seven.
